Two days into this "Big Brother" experiment Evan seems to be enjoying it well enough.

Puppy Towel

My Mom brought Evan a great new puppy towel when she came out to help with Alex, but he hasn't been very willing to use it till now.  For whatever reason he decided tonight was the night to break out the new towel and parade it around the house:

Guided Tour

The first thing we did when we got home was have Evan take Alex on a guided tour of his new house.  Of course the tour had to start with the house's most important feature, the train table:

The tour covered the whole house but didn't lend itself very well to further documentation, so this one (not very good) picture is it.

Homeward Bound

On Tuesday Steph's two days in the hospital were up so it was time to strap Alex into his car seat for the first time and bring him home:

Based on his outfit you might think it was snowing outside or something, but in fact it was a pretty nice day -- the mittens are the standard cocaine nail defeaters, and the hat is part of the nursery uniform they make all the kids wear.

Anyway, here are Steph, Alex and I in front of the hospital just before loading everyone into the car:

Put Me Back In

I suppose it should come as no great surprise the Alex really likes the fetal position.  He is used to it, after all:

It is somewhat of a surprise how strong his little legs are, though, and how vehemently he insists that they remain curled up at all times.

More (of the Same) Visitors

Everyone who's staying at our place (which includes me this time around, plus Steph's sister Kim and her boyfriend Bill who were in town for a friend's wedding) made another trip to the hospital this morning to visit with Steph and Alex.  I didn't get very many pictures of every else, but I did get this nice one of Steph breastfeeding Alex:

For some reason Steph didn't see fit to eat the Raisin Bran that came with her breakfast, but Evan was more than willing to help out (although he was mostly just fishing for raisins):

Big Brother

Sheilagh and Megan left the hospital an hour or so after Alex was born but they came back again later in the morning with everyone else from home, namely Big Brother Evan.  Evan likes babies a lot, and we've been talking about the impending arrival of Baby Alex for the last month or so to get him excited about having a little brother.  I think it worked pretty well, because when he got here he blew right past me and Steph looking for Baby Alex.  As you can see, he was pretty curious about the little guy:

Not only did Evan get a baby brother, but Alex was also thoughtful enough to get Evan a new convertible car!  With flames on it!  You can't see it very well in these pictures, but you'll have to take my word for it that it's pretty cool:

Evan didn't spend all his time here fixated on Alex, though.  He also found the time to help me post these pictures:

Also, since the lighting was much better with the sun being up and all we took the opportunity to take some better pictures of our little family:

Alexander Scott!

We were oh so close to maintaining our on-time delivery record, but there are some things you just have to wait for, like Alexander Scott Metz:

He was born at 1:03 AM this morning (he was due yesterday), weighed 8 lbs. 0 oz., and was 20" long:

Steph's mom Sheilagh and sister Megan came to the hospital with us to help with the delivery while my mom and Steph's dad stayed home with Evan:

Unfortunately the lighting was really low this time around so our pictures aren't that great.  Here is the best one we got of our growing little family:

Baby Brother Bunny

In preparation for bringing his own baby brother home any day now, Steph's parents brought Evan a baby brother for his favorite bunny rabbit:

His name is Baby Brother Bunny (we're not the most creative namers of stuffed animals around here).
