Part of Evan's solid food regimen includes puffs, which are a flavored Cheerio-like finger food that pretty much melts in your mouth (an important feature when you only have two teeth). Up until now they've been a little too small and light for his clumsy baby fingers, but he keeps trying and he's finally starting to get it!
This video is a little longer than it really needs to be, but I was too lazy to trim it down and there's good stuff at the beginning and the end:

Meat Eater
It's been about a month now that Evan has been eating solid food (i.e. something other than breast milk), and as I've discussed before, he's quite the proficient eater. We've been working our way through the various fruits and vegetables with almost no resistance (although he didn't like bananas one bit -- I think he got that from me), so we decided today was the day for Evan to move up the food chain and try some meat. And where better to make one's debut as a carnivore (OK, technically as an omnivore, but let's not split hairs) than at In-N-Out Burger?
This, of course, was not Evan's first trip to In-N-Out. He's been there several times before, but exclusively as a spectator. This was his first chance to sit at the table with the other meat eaters, although he was ordering from a slightly different menu. I'm not sure why, but I don't believe In-N-Out offers Turkey & Turkey Broth (or more accurately, turkey paste... mmm, turkey paste). They may want to consider it in the future, because Evan sure liked it.
Here are a few pictures of Evan's first bites of turkey:

You may have noticed that in all the pictures I've posted of Evan eating he's got his arms open wide. I think he's trying to embrace the food. Whatever he's doing, he does it all the time.

Crawling Practice
He's not quite ready to crawl yet, but Evan has been practicing aspects of the basic technique for several weeks now. He can do push-ups and pick himself up from his stomach to his hands and knees pretty well, and he loves doing a Superman pose and kicking his feet really fast. Once he figures out how to do both at the same time there will be no stopping him!
Here's one of his recent practice sessions. He threw in a bit of a flourish at the end since he was on camera:

Big Boy Clothes
We're big fans of dressing Evan in full-body onesies with feet, especially since the weather has been a bit cold recently. You don't have to worry about socks falling off, they don't ride up leaving bellies and legs exposed, they're really easy to put on and take off, and we happen to have a lot of them. Recently, however, we've been getting a lot of subtly-snide remarks to the tune of "Oh, what a cute little boy, and he's already wearing his pajamas." They're comfy and practical clothing... why do they have to be pajamas? The kid can't walk, so why would he need socks and shoes? And for what reason on Earth do baby clothes have pockets?! Evan doesn't have the dexterity to operate a pocket, and even if he did anything small enough to fit in one would be a significant choking hazard. Mark my words, baby clothes with pockets are a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. When I think of the unnecessary suffering of babies who gagged on marbles and tiny plastic farm animals they hid from their parents in their utterly-superfluous pockets it makes me sick.
Steph has to deal with this issue (the pajama comments, not the choking on plastic farm animals) a lot more often than I do, though, so she caved and went out and bought him a couple more pairs of tiny pants yesterday. (Did I mention that we hardly have any pants that fit him anymore? That might be a factor in our onesie obsession.) Here he is in one of them:
I suppose it was unrealistic to assume that Evan could wear one-piece outfits forever. And I have to admit that he is quite adorable in big boy clothes.

Excitable Boy
Evan is becoming quite the fan of playing peekaboo recently. He likes cloth-over-the-face peekaboo, walk-around-the-corner peekaboo, stroller peekaboo, pretty much any of the classic memes are good. Here is playing hide-behind-the-chair peekaboo with Steph:
As you can see, he gets so excited that he knocks himself over sometimes!
